Briefly, our proposed mechanism on keratinolysis associated with the suf operon including the SufSU complex includes three major cellular metabolic pathways; (i) sulfur transfer for Fe‐S cluster biogenesis, (ii) stress response through intracellular cysteine/cystine‐mediated redox homeostasis, and (iii) extracellular cysteine/cystine‐mediated reducing power for sulfitolysis.
