In 1999 IFORS (The International Federation of Operational Research Societies) celebrated forty years since its formation. A previous article explained how IFORS came into being following the first international conference in Operational Research, and examined the foundations that were laid in the years leading up to its first General Meeting, held at the second international conference. Here, the growth of IFORS and the establishment of regional groups, people involved in IFORS, presidents and secretaries, main activities of IFORS, conferences, publications, and support for developing countries, the financial aspects, kindred societies, in particular AGIFORS, and IFORS involvement in FIACC are discussed.
