Differences of atomic radii R CN12 and R CN8 obtained from (i) elemental f.c. cubic (or c.p. hexagonal) and b.c. cubic structures, (ii) from calculation with Pauling's equation, R (1) − R ( n ) = 0.3 log n and (iii) by calculation for the condition of equal atomic volumes in the f.c. and b.c. cubic structures are compared as a function of R CN8 . Observations and recommendations are made.
