X‐ray diffraction patterns show that the ternary oxide of trivalent americium with lithium ( α ‐LiAmO 2 ) has a monoclinic cell with a = 5.7761, b = 6.0770, c = 5.6862 Å and β = 103.174°. This compound is isomorphous with the corresponding a ‐LiEuO 2 .
