Isomaltooligosaccharides ( IMO) is general term for such oligosaccharides. Previous study demonstrated that IMO can be a useful components for the intestinal flora improvement. The objective of this study was to investigate the AGV‐ IMO drink ( AGV‐IMO) whether has prebiotics potential on gastro intentinal (GI) protective effect in rat. Sprague Dawley rats ( n=40)were divided into four groups, such as control (con), positive control (PC), low dose of AGV‐IMO(LD), and high does of AGV‐IMO (HD). AGV‐IMO was added into daily water for 8 weeks. Changes in whole bodyweights and daily food intake were monitored throughout the study, and found no significant different among the groups. For the microflora analysis, viable cell counts of Lactobacilli, Bifidobacteria, total anaerobic bacteria counts, Escherichia coli, and Clostridium perfringens were determined from the feces and cecum of rats. The results reveled that AGV‐IMO significantly enhanced the beneficial effects on gut microflora, but suppressed the bacterial pathogens in the feces and cecum. Findings from our study suggest that long term add AGV‐IMO drink into daily water is a potential source of prebiotic in rat.
