Objective To determine the correlation between mitochondrial ribosomal protein MRPL42 expression levels in glioma and its association with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis. Methods immunohistochemistry assays were performed to explore the MRPL42 levels among diverse World Health Organization (WHO) grade of glioma, and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics and survival prognosis of patients was also analyzed. Results The results of immunohistochemistry analysis indicated that the expression of MRPL42 was positively correlated with glioma WHO grade(P<0.05) and several malignant clinicopathological index including Ki67 and P53mut. Besides, Kaplan‐Meier survival analysis also illustrated that patients with high expression of MRPL42 had significantly shorter overall survival than those with low expression of MRPL42(P<0.05). Conclusion The expression of MRPL42 not only showed a tumor grade and clinicopathological factors‐dependent pattern, but also existed a positive correlation between them and distinguished glioma with poor prognosis, which may serve as prognostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets in glioma.
