The use of sigma–delta (ΣΔ) quantisers in the context of an oversampled odd‐stacked cosine modulated filter bank (CMFB) is investigated. Shown is that the exploitation of the ΣΔ quantisers jointly with the CMFB ensures significant robustness of the transmitted signal against transmission errors. In this context, an upper bound of the minimum squares error of the reconstructed signal is derived and it is proved that it decreases as (1/ r 2 ), where r denotes the CMFB frame redundancy, for the first‐ and the second‐order ΣΔ quantisers.
