Summary The purpose of this paper is to argue for a measure of quality of life (QoL) for children aged between 4 and 8 years, describe the obstacles in developing such a measure, and provide evidence that it is possible to elicit directly information from children. Finally we summarize and critique measures that are currently available for this purpose.
