Summary Linkage and QTL maps of Sus scrofa chromosome 18 (SSC18) were generated using five markers in three F 2 families based on Wild Boar (W), Pietrain (P) and Meishan (P) crosses. The linkage maps were similar for the three families and confirm the published map. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for meat content, fat‐to‐meat ratio, weight of liver and food conversion ratio were mapped in the W × M family. A QTL for pH value 24 h after slaughter in Musculus semimembranosus was found in the M × P family. The QTL for carcass meat content and fat‐to‐meat ratio in the W × M family were localized near the leptin gene ( LEP ).
