– Glass eels and adults of Anguilla australis and A. dieffenbachii were collected from rivers in the North and South Islands of New Zealand and tested for nine and ten allozyme loci, respectively. There was no heterogeneity among glass eel samples, but there was heterogeneity among adult samples within species. The results indicate that there may be single panmictic populations subject to sweepstake events or different selective pressures in the adult environments.
