The Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI) co-ordinates an advanced Inter-Nordic training program in Intensive Care Medicine. The training program is limited to 25 trainees. The training period is 2 years, starting January 2003. During the training period the SSAI organises 6 courses. These courses will circulate in all the Nordic countries and the common language will be English. The training period includes an exchange program with a clinic in another country. During the 2-year period the trainee will be appointed a host clinic. The host clinic will employ the trainee in an appropriate position during the training program. A minimum of one year of clinical training should be done in a university clinic. The trainee is expected to attend the examination for the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine and acquire the European Diploma in Intensive Care (EDIC) awarded by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. Trainees completing the 2-year Inter-Nordic training program will receive a certification in Intensive Care Medicine from the SSAI. All expenses for this program (including travelling, accommodation and a fee for each course) have to be covered by the host clinic. Applicants must be young specialists in Anaesthesiology.
