A figure of merit for each light source is proposed using the optical power level at the receiving end of a long fiber transmission line, since transmission loss of a multimode fiber depends strongly on launching conditions. A simple measuring method of the figure is also proposed without using a long fiber transmission line. The method enables us to know the optical power level at the receiving end of a fiber transmission line with arbitrary length for each light source.
