A scalar magnetic anomaly map between ±50° geographic latitude was derived from MAGSAT data acquired during the November 1979 to June 1980 mission lifetime. Separation of anomaly fields from core and external fields was accomplished utilizing techniques developed for POGO data (Mayhew, 1979; Langel et al., 1980). Comparison with a similar map from POGO data shows that the basic anomaly patterns are essentially reproducible except in a few regions such as the Atlantic and Pacific at latitudes south of −15°. Increased resolution due to a lower measurement altitude is evident in the MAGSAT map.
