Industrial pollution declined 2.3% in the United States and Canada in 1996, continuing a dip during the previous 2 years, according to the Commission for Environmental Cooperation's (CEC) August 10 report, “Taking Stock 1996.” The report says the decline also continues beyond 1996. Large manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada that reported information to CEC produced 1.225 billion kg of pollution in 1996, compared to 1.254 billion kg in 1995, the report says.
