six incidents, including four falls. Family members expressed frustration about the frequency of resident falls and admissions to the emergency department that they felt were preventable. Conclusions: Due to the lack of health care professionals employed in the facilities, many residents repeatedly utilized emergency health care due to incidents which did not require hospitalization and may have been unnecessary. Changes in assisted living policy requiring employment of health care professionals may decrease emergency department admissions.
