Taking into account dynamical effects local similarity numbers are developed. These involve both momentum and vorticity transfer transversal to the mean flow direction and can be regarded as a generalization of proposals made by L. Prandtl, G. I. Taylor, and Th. v. Kármán. The application to eight typical shear flows reveals common local properties and allows us to establish a common approximation for the eddy viscosity.
