A new technique is proposed to the coupled thermoelastic problems in three‐dimensions. In the basic relations we introduce an additive harmonic function and then it is possible to separate both thermal and elastic fundamental differential equations Taking advantage of this technique we will be able to obtain the exact solution for the whole time range in the three‐dimensional transient thermal stress problem of a circular cylinder. Several numerical results in temperature and stress distribution are given for the sake of comparison to the classical results.
