A differential approximation for the equations of radiative transfer in a grey gas of arbitrary opacity including the effects of radiative flux, pressure and energy density is applied in a study of the effects of thermal radiation on the growth and decay properties of finite amplitude waves of arbitrary shape propagating through a thermally inviscid gas.
