Abstract Complexes of benzhydrazide and salicylhydrazide with some divalent metal ions of the first transition series are investigated by IR‐spectrophotometry. The study showed that the organic ligand exhibited the ketonic form and that the phenolic OH‐group of salicylhydrazide is not participating in chelate formation. The ketonic structure of the benzhydrazide ligand is also attained in solution as supported by the results of migration experiments and conductometric titrations. The stoichiometry of the complexes formed in solution is also studied.
