A systematic review and meta‐analysis of 27 randomized controlled trials has concluded that testosterone treatment may be effective in reducing depressive symptoms in men, especially when given in higher doses. Because not all of the trials that were included in the meta‐analysis looked at patients with a depression diagnosis, the authors suggested that more research specifically examining depression is needed in order to draw definitive conclusions about the potential of testosterone treatment. Study results were published online Nov. 14 in JAMA Psychiatry .
