Abstract The band structure and Fermi surfaces of Bi and Sb are studied with four different semiempirical pseudopotentials. By application of a Golin potential screened by the Heine‐Abarenkov form of dielectric function reasonable band structures are obtained. The calculated Fermi surfaces show very good agreement with the experimental data. Remaining discrepancies with respect to lower lying valence bands are analysed and compared with other calculations.
