Abstract The Raman spectra of the “self‐trapped hole” or V K center are measured in LiF, KCl, and RbCl. The localized vibrational modes induced by these centers are situated at 437, 241, and 244 cm −1 , respectively. The vibrational modes of the V K center in the alkali halides and fluorides are calculated, making use of a semi‐empirical energy function. These calculations are discussed and compared with the experimental data.
