Abstract Recoilless fraction f(T) of iodine ion in RbI, NaI, and KI has been calculated at different temperatures using the simple shell model. The temperature dependence of the shell model parameters is taken into account by a method discussed by Pandey and Dayal in their study of thermal expansion of ionic crystals. The calculated values of f(T) are compared with available experimental results and good agreement is obtained.
