Abstract Solid solutions of CdTe‐CdSe are investigated by the Debye‐Scherrer powder method. The lattice constants are found to vary with composition. It was concluded that in the investigated material, both cubic and hexagonal structures form substitutional crystals. In a certain composition range both structures exist separately. No new phase appears in the solution.
