Abstract Newtons Coefficient of Restitution, for low velocity impacts between macroscopic rigid‐plastic identical spherical particles, depends primarily on the initial relative velocity, Youngs Modulus, particle size and the plastic yield stress. Surface tension becomes important for impacts between nano‐scale particles. The major implications of surface tension for impacts at the nano‐scale are discussed. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
