Abstract This letter investigates a circular base loaded modified rectangular monopole radiator. Two main aims of presented research article are: (a) to achieve super wide bandwidth with the help of circular base loaded rectangular monopole, tapered microstrip line feed and elliptical ground plane; (b) to increase bandwidth dimension ratio (BDR) with the help of modification in rectangular monopole. To authenticate the proposed radiator, prototype has been fabricated and measured. Experimental outcome shows that the proposed radiator operates over the frequency range from 0.96 to 13.98 GHz (VSWR < 2) with a bandwidth ratio of 14.56:1 and having fractional bandwidth of 174.29%. Bandwidth dimension ratio for proposed radiator is 7468.51. Time domain analysis has also been performed to support the applicability of proposed radiator in super wideband applications.
