A coupled dual‐U‐shaped antenna for WiMAX triple‐band operation is presented. The proposed antenna is composed of two U‐shaped radiating elements based on a 50‐Ω microstrip‐fed line on FR4 substrate. By using the coupling between the inner and the outer U‐shaped antennas, which mainly generate three different resonant modes, the optimized matching characteristic is obtained. The experimental results such as the matching characteristic and radiation pattern of the proposed antenna are presented. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
