The isorefractive scattering by spherically anisotropic spheres is established for the plane‐wave incidence. The effects of the anisotropy ratio in the scattering cross‐sections are studied, and physical insights to particular phenomena are provided. The equivalence in the far‐field scattering is also revealed for both isorefractive and spherically uniaixal anisotropic spheres. The peculiarities in the scattering for both small and large anisotropic spheres and the dependence on spherical anisotropy are presented and discussed. The method developed here thus possesses higher degree of generality and applicability, which can study scattering problems of anisotropic bodies as well as model some physical problems. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
