A simple and compact coplanar waveguide (CPW)‐fed antenna for dual‐ and wide‐band wireless applications is presented. By properly embedding slots into a rectangular patch, the designed antenna thus fed by a CPW feedline and, with, including ground plane, only 24 × 25 mm 2 , can lead to good impedance matching in a wide dual‐band covering IMT‐2000, 5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN, and 5.8 GHz RFID operations. Prototype of the proposed antenna has been constructed and experimentally studied. The measured results not only explore good dualband operations with wide −10 dB impedance bandwidths of 370 and 4.13 GHz at the lower and upper bands, respectively, but also show good agreement with the numerical predictions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
