Abstract Technology is important as its interpretation is the base to consider costs. For the herewith discussed fiber lasers we should mainly look at the fiber laser module itself, being the power generator, the pump source for this generator and some accessories as well. Finally the application capabilities will round this picture. Fiber lasers are in competition to other technologies not being the answer to all questions. as rofin in its Macro division does manufacture almost all market relevant laser technologies, named CO 2 lasers, disc‐lasers, rod‐lasers, diode lasers as well as the discussed fiber lasers, rofin serves as an unbiased consultant for the customers. Comparing those different lasers is not always possible. With differences in power level, beam quality and even more important wavelength, the application capability often tells the story and thus we'd like to rather concentrate on the fiber lasers than starting a comparison of products.
