Cells harvested during logarithmic growth give a higher percentage of asci than cells harvested during stationary phase. This observation is valide whatever the carbon source. When the culture is done on yeast extract 0.5%, glucose 0.5%, the cells during logarithmic growth have a weak acetate QO 2 , a high endogenous QO 2 . The activities of fumarase and isocitritase are also weak. All these characteristics are not incompatible with an abundant sporulation.
