For introducing 14 C into position 1 of 2‐deoxyaldoses, methods based on prolongation of the carbon chain usually come into consideration since one can proceed from simple and inexpensive 14 C‐compounds. Such a possibility is offered by the method of Fisher and Sowden (1, 2) which was applied by a number of other authors.
