The effectiveness of radiotherapy with the 188 Re nuclide could be improved by inducing damage selectively to the DNA of the cancerous cells, which is more sensitive to radiations than the rest of the cell. A complex of a 188 Re(CO) 3 core with a pyrene derivative has been synthesized for further investigation of the proof of principle that DNA localized 188 Re can cause DNA strandbreaks at. low activity conc entrations.
