2 H and 13 C‐labelled bromodichloromethane and chlorodibromomethane were obtained in yields of 20 and 12% (for 2 H) and 6 and 3% (for 13 C) respectively from a convenient aluminum chloride‐catalyzed reaction of bromoethane with commercially‐available isotopically‐substituted chloroform. The products were purified by preparative gas chromatography and characterized by MS and 13 C NMR, and by 1 H for the 13 C‐labelled material; mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy data are reported.
