The synthesis of phenyl‐U‐carbon‐13 labelled D,L‐norepinephrine from catechol‐U‐ 13 C in three steps is described. In the first step, the Friedel‐Crafts acylation of the labelled part with N‐phthaloylglycylchloride yielded the aromatic ketone adduct. Subsequent hydrolysis and catalytic hydrogenation produced the desired product in a 5% overall yield.
