Tritium‐ or 14 C‐labelled methyl iodide and ethyl iodide were used for alkylations of phenols and thiols. The reactions were performed in a two‐phase system with phase transfer catalysis at room temperature. Products of high specific activity were isolated in isotope yields ranging from 38% to 100%.
