The synthesis of enalapril maleate (MK 421) labelled with tritium at its proline ring is described. Thus, the N′‐hydroxysuccinimidyl ester of a N‐carboxyalkyl alanine derivative was reacted with L‐[4,5‐H] proline and the crude reaction mixture treated with maleic acid to give the maleate salt of enalapril in 27% yield.
