1‐Ethyl‐6,7‐methylenedioxy‐4(1H)‐oxocinnoline‐3‐carboxylic acid (cinoxacin) (1), an effective antimicrobial agent has been labelled with carbon‐14. The carbon‐14 was incorporated into the C‐4 position of the molecule to give XIV in 10.0% overall radiochemical yield based on barium carbonate‐ 14 C. The 13 C‐, 15 N‐, and d‐labelled compounds (XV, XVII, and XVIII) have also been synthesized for absorption and metabolism studies.
