The anomalous course of 14 CO 2 incorporation observed in the thermal transformation of disodium adipate was studied. It has been established that the thermal transformation of butane‐1,1,4‐tricarboxylic acid trisodium salt is accompanied by intramolecular 1‐4 transfer of carboxyl groups. The results of 14 C incorporation and carboxyl group exchange suggest that disodium adipate α‐carbanion is present and participates in the reaction in cyclic form.
