Abstract Lithiation of 4‐benzyloxy‐2‐bromotoluene and subsequent quenching of the lithiated product affords 4‐benzyloxytoluene‐2‐t which is oxidized directly to 4‐benzyloxybenzaldehyde‐2‐t with ceric ammonium nitrate. Transformation of the aldehyde 6 by standard procedures affords DL‐tyrosine‐2′‐t and tyramine‐2′‐t.
