Traditional approaches to innovation management have generally been ‘bottom‐up’, starting from suggestion schemes centred on existing, steady‐state processes and incremental product development. This lacks a holistic view of the business, and needs reconciliation with long‐term strategy that may include disruptive technology and business model changes. This paper covers a more balanced approach to innovation management, allowing both bottom‐up and top‐down ideas generation, prioritisation, and alignment with business strategy.
