Is it time for E‐SE? Exploitation of internet technology by systems engineering (SE) will surely play heavily in our ‘New Century of Opportunity.‘ This paper addresses the use of internet technology for supporting: a) systems engineering on a project, and b) systems engineering process improvement in an enterprise. The paper is intended to assemble a set of concise and potentially useful guidance into one place. Principles behind the popularity of the web are discussed. These are related to the needs of project and enterprise systems engineering and program management activities. Potential dimensions of web use are described and related to the concept of a ‘project portal.‘ A candidate project managers' wish list is presented. Lastly, a few comments are offered on futures of E‐SE. We may indeed be entering the age of E‐SE!
