NLC have been incorporated in a multitude of novel structures such as photonic crystals, waveguides and plasmonic and metamaterials nanostructures to enable dynamical control of light transmission. A critical review of the underlying nonlinear optical responses of nematic as well as Blue‐Phase liquid crystals is presented.
