We describe a liquid crystal display mode, VA‐FFS, whose liquid crystal is vertically‐aligned and driven by fringe fields. Through the numerical analysis of its optical properties, we suggest that the VA‐FFS mode with negative dielectric anisotropy could have low color washout and premium picture quality.
