We propose a 2‐ms nematic LC mode without alignment layers. Three‐terminal electrode structure is used to apply in‐plane and vertical fields to the LC cell. Initially, nematic LCs are randomly aligned. The dark state and bright state are obtained by applying vertical and in‐plane fields to the cell, respectively. We achieved the total response time of less than 2 ms in the proposed mode.
