While the model of immigrant adaptation used by Kovacs and Cropley improves on earlier models by allowing for a state of alienation, it is still restricted by not being able to describe cases of high integration. This can be done by employing a multi‐dimensional model which allows, at least in some instances, for assimilation and alienation to occur independently of each other. An important implication of such an approach is that immigrants may adopt host group characteristics without rejecting their ethnicity.
