This article announces the expansion of Water For People's international development program to include five additional countries in order to position the organization to reach its target of directly benefiting 1,000 new people per day by 2011. The five new countries include Ecuador, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Uganda, and the Dominican Republic and were selected following a review of 10 countries identified in earlier desk studies. Each of the 10 countries was evaluated by a team of volunteers from Water For People's World Water Corps (an in‐country volunteer program with short‐term assignments) that visited each country to assess needs, meet with potential partner organizations, and evaluate the potential for successful implementation of Water For People's community‐based model.
