This article discusses developing a strategic information technology (IT) plan to aid utilities in dealing with challenges such as an aging workforce, aging infrastructure, growth, and a need for greater efficiency. The article discusses four key tasks in developing a strategic IT plan and lists benefits of a comprehensive information technology assessment that will provide a roadmap and supporting justification for an organization to move toward enabling fully integrated IT systems that will optimize end‐to‐end business processes.
