This article presents outdoor water use as a growing conservation challenge facing the United States. Roughly 8 billion gallons of water per day are devoted to lawn and landscape irrigation, a volume equivalent to 14 billion six‐packs of beer. Forward‐thinking water‐saving strategies to address these issues are presented.
