This article discusses geographic information system (GIS) software used by WEB Water Development Association of Aberdeen, South Dakota to help improve operation efficiencies and customer service. The article describes efforts to improve WEB's business needs and mapping processes by using a custom map editor application to simplify and standardize data entry, and an application to meet WEB's automated customer service and work‐ticket needs. A brief explanation of how a GIS system operates is provided, along with long‐term benefits of using a GIS application.
